Common Acura Repair Problems

A Defective Keyless Entry System

The keyless entry system of an Acura is unfortunately known for getting easily worn out. When the remote keyless entry unit is just not working, drivers instead have to resort to using their keys instead.

First identify the specific problem:

If the alarm is working and the lock is not responding, then you may need to replace the door lock motor. We will have to take the door apart and find the motor unit. The keyless entry lock motor is a rectangular box that is usually attached to the top side of the lock mechanism. We will replace it with a compatible unit, and make sure that its connections are securely fastened.

Sometime, the remote transmitter doesn’t work. This can be caused by nearby broadcast towers that interfere with the transmitter and renber it useless. If this happens, then you will need to contact your local Acura dealer. since only the manufacturer can replace your remote.

Steering System Problems

Steering system problems can be indicated by any of the following: a difficulty in steering, you notice an erratic power steering assist, and/or a noisy power steering pump.

The power steering pump is one of the most common Steering System Problems problems in Acura vehicles. The problem is usually caused by internal and external leaks.

The internal leaks are often harder to detect. Usually one will notice a type of groaning or grinding sound when using the steering.

External leaks are easily discovered by the brownish or pinkish fluid dripping from the steering pimp, which is located in the rear of the vehicle. If not repaired promptly, a damaged steering pump can make it harder when maneuvering your Acura, greatly increasing the risk for an accident to happen.

If the pump is noisy, a replacement bearing may be necessary. If after replacing the bearing the pump is still noisy, then we will need to replace the entire pump.

But rest assured, proper preventive maintenance will extend the service life of your Acura power steering pump.

At a minimum. just make sure to check the fluid levels of the pump at every oil change, then add and replace when necessary. Also,it is important to check for the tightness of the drive belt.

A Faulty Transmission

Unfortunately, many longtime Acura owners have often complained about the transmission system as usually becoming a problem over the years.

Problems include, a difficulty in shifting gears, hurky- jerky shifting, the transmission slips, and other noticeable problems.

The fact is that Acura transmission systems are a bit harder to work with and repair compared to other makes of vehicles.

Most Acura models manufactured from 1999-2003 have engineering defects that can cause cooling problems for the transmission parts.

This can cause premature transmission wear and even lead to an engine failure.

Other Acura transmission systems of selected models are known to fail due to lack of thread-locking compound for the low clutch.

Regular preventive maintenance services like fluid or oil changes will not always solve or prevent these transmission problem.

When repairs are required you are going to have to replace your transmission components with top quality parts.
