Honda Motor Company – based in Japan was founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda.

The Honda company first products were motorbikes. After World War II, Honda manufactured engines designed to work with bicycles to create a motorcycle that was inexpensive to produce and cheap to maintain and operate.These were known as the Honda Cub

In the early 1960s, Honda built its first automobiles for the Japanese market.

In 1970 that it exported the tiny N600 car into the U.S. It was not an overnight success, but that all changed in 1973 with the introduction of the Honda Civic.

The Honda civic offered fuel efficiency and an affordable price which quickly made it an American success story. By 1976, the Honda line added the Honda Accord, which also became a favorite with U.S. consumers as well.

Currently, Honda is the sixth largest automobile manufacturer in the world.

Common Honda Repair Problems

An Excessive Consumption of Oil

If you ever see blue smoke coming from your tail pipe, or you smell potent exhaust fumes coming from the tailpipe, then it’s pretty likely that your engine is consuming too much oil.

This problem is generally caused in Honda’s by leaking valve seals, leaking oil pan, or you gaskets have become too worn out to do theirjob.

Be sure to regularly check your engine’s oil levels. If you have to keep adding oil to your engine every 1,000 miles or so, you may have an oil leak. If so, then your oil leak is probably caused by a worn valve cover gasket which can easily be repaired by replacing them.

Excessive Brake Pad Wear

Unfortunately, the Honda Civic and Accord models, are well known to have this problem on a continuing basis.

If you car is fairly new, you will notice this is a problem when you apply pressure on your brakes and your car fails to stop fairly quickly, as it used to.

Easily solved and repaired by getting new replacement brake pads installed.

Recurring Transmission Failure

This is a huge problem, and is commonly caused by a failing torque converter.

What happens is that while you can rev the engine up, your Honda won’t shift gear or move.

If your car is still under warranty you may want to contact your dealer first, since this problem may be covered under your warranty plan. Also, Honda offers Accord owners an out-of-warranty compensation for repairs. So you can also use your own mechanic and get reimbursed, but be sure to check with the manufacturer first.
