Wipers, Lights, And Accessories
Properly Working Lights Mean Better Safety On The Road
Did you know that the first windshield wiper blades for automobiles were operated manually?
There was a lever inside the car which was hand operated by moving it back and forth.
And did you know that windshield wipers were invented by a woman?
There were invented by Mary Anderson in 1903.
She even received a patent for her invention, but the automobile companies claimed that they did not have any commercial value. But right after Mary Anderson’s patent ran out in 1920, the automobile companies started making them a standard feature on the vehicles they produced.
Today our electronically operated, multi-speed, windshield wiper are just considered a normal piece of vehicle equipment.
There are two major parts of the wiper blade system that are required to work properly, so that you are able to drive safely and comfortably.
One is the motor. This amazing little motor is designed to force your wiper blades to move across the windshield at different speeds.
The other is the wiper blades themselves.
Wiper blades are thin, hard, yet pliable strips of rubber that work like a squeegee to clear rain from your car’s windshield. When the wiper blade is new, it easily wipes away water and window grimes. As blade use continues and the blades become weatherized, they begin to crack and the tightness of the seal against the windshield loses pressure. Then you will start to see streaks and notice that the wiper blades are not clearing your windshield as effectively as it used to.
Wiper Blade Replacement Service
Worn out wiper blades tend to be overlooked, and can pose a serious safety hazard while you are driving.
A rule of thumb is to change your wiper blades at least once a year, and maybe more often, if you live in an area with extreme weather changes. If you notice that they begin to streak the windshield or ‘chatter, it is probably time to replace them.
Here in the Pacific Northwest every drive understands the importance of having a full view of the road when driving in the ever present rain.
Our Comfort Auto Repair Wiper Blade Replacement Service will remove your vehicle’s worn wiper blades and install quality, new blades.
We will also check to make sure the windshield wiper arm assembly is running properly.
And also check your wiper fluid and top off or refill as necessary.
Lights – Headlamps
Your Car’s Headlights
Your vehicles headlights or headlamps usually come with two beams, one is the high-beam mode or bright lights, which may be used when no other cars are within view, and low-beams, which are used for normal driving conditions.
Headlamps mostly come in two types — the conventional, sealed beam, which generally produces a maximum of 150,000 candlepower – which is the U.S. legal limit, and the halogen light, which produces a 25 percent increase of white light while using the same amount of power as the conventional, sealed headlamp.
